Just saw this on the dvr, so may be late to the party here, but…
Sideways John Locke will defeat the smoke monster. Sideways Desmond (who had connected with the mind of Island Desmond) hit Sideways Locke with his car to give Locke a near-death experience. This will start Sideways Locke’s reconnection with his body on the Island Timeline (which is currently inhabited by the smoke monster). He’ll have a psychic battle with the smoke monster to retake control of his body in the island timeline, possibly destroying the smoke monster in the process. But maybe the smoke monster will escape to a new body and other Islanders will have to destroy him in a different manner.
